What Genre Do You Like to Read?

Hi Everyone,

I have a question for all you readers out there. What genre do you like to read best? I admit I've read nearly everything but my favorite will always be mystery with a mix of romance in the story. When my birthday or Christmas rolled around I could always depend on receiving one book or more, which guaranteed I would sit in a corner reading said book.

Those were the days when I grew up reading Trixie Belden, Nancy Drew, The Hardy Boys and more then graduated to Agatha Christie plus whatever I could find in my grandmother's library at the top of the stairs. Oh, the memories of the wholesome stories I found there to read and the hours spent deciding what to read next. I'm a reader, and I'm proud of it.

What is your favorite genre? Do you like mysteries, romantic suspense, inspiratonal, historical, time travel, paranormals, urban fantasy, horror, erotica romance, or do you like a mixture of several of these? I'll eagerly await your comments.

Have a great week until next Sunday.

Sandy

It's a toss-up between historicals and paranormals as my favorite genre, but I will pretty much read anything if I like the storyline. I just enjoy reading.

Hey Sandy,

I can read anything in the romance genre barring historicals. My favorites are romantic suspense and paranormals. I also like a good action story by the likes of Clive Cussler and Dan Brown or a suspense by authors like Tess Gerritsen. I guess when it really comes down to it, I can read anything. I just love to read.

Since I write contemporary Interracial Multicultural romance with sports, I'll go that direction. Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Lori Foster, Joanne Rock, Carly Phillips.

I'm with you, Sandy. I like mystery with a touch of romance in it. Not category-type romance, but the real thing; a protagonist who evokes empathy even as he/she solves the crime.

I like suspense. It can be romance, historical, mystery, mainstream. As long as there is suspense.

I'm a paranormal girl, preferably with lots of romance thrown in.

Historical romance has the right amount of "take me away" for me.

My favorite genre depends on my mood and read everything in fiction, even literary on occasion and sci-fi.

Tara W, you're my kind of reader. I like just about anything but if they put a twister in there I like it even better.

Thanks for your comment.

Thanks, Lynn.

I have a keeper on my shelf by Tess Gerritsen titled Vanish. Talk about a real twist that story has one.

Thanks, K.T.

Lori Foster is one of my favs.

Thanks, Dale. I'm heavy on mystery too.

Sandy said...

Thanks, Chey. Yay for suspense. Smile.

Thanks, J. Hali.

Of course, you're a paranormal girl. You forgot to mention you're a cat girl too. lol

Thanks, Emily.

There are a lot of people who would love to live in another time period. Smile.

You're right, Linda. I will read anything at times.

Thanks for your comment.

Hi Sandy,

It's funny. I'm not so much a genre specific as I am types of story specific. I want a book with emotion, and while there can be saddness in the story, I don't want to be depressed and I don't want the characters to be depressed. Nothing turns me off more than a really depressed character. I want some humor and I want lots of deep characterization. I want to feel as if I really know these people. I want to know where they came from, their childhood hangups, the things they hated about their parents, and in what ways they swear to never be their parents.

I don't have to have a mystery/suspense, but hey, face it, what keeps a reader turning pages more than physical danger.

Great post, girl.

I like a wide variety of books: Mysteries, Romance, Christian fiction and classics. I have read books in my Book Clubs that I would normally never pick up, but found most are enjoyable. I hate to start a book and not finish, but found there are so many good books out there to waste time with one that I can not get into. I read about 2 books a week and always have at least one stashed away if I need another.

I love reading regency romances...but I don't write them! I'm not sure I know all the correct terms or customs, but love to read them.

Thank you, Christie.

You're right there has to be emotion and some humor to loosen it up a bit.

Lady, I wish I could write humor like you do.

Sandy said...

Thank you, Val. You might like my books then.

Yay, Belinda. I love readers. Thanks for your comment.

Thanks, Marianne/April.

When I was a kid I loved the sweet regency romances.

Hey, Robynl, thanks for stopping by so late. It's probably about your bedtime. Smile.

I'm thankful you like romantic suspense. I've read some great western and military books too.

I'll read just about anything if the writer can hook me. I like Romantic Suspense, but character and emotion play a big part in whatever I'm reading. Plus, I love witty sarcasm. :)

Hi, Sandy, when i was a kid, I read a lot of Nancy Drew. I don't know when exactly, but sometime in my adult life, time travels became my favorite. Perhaps because I love history and enjoy sci-fi as well. But at any rate, i prefer romance, no matter what the sub-genre is.

Hey Sandy - I have to have romance in my reading material - and it can be in a mystery, suspense, paranormal - you name it. But, I took a look at my "keeper" shelves and I noticed a pattern - I think I gravitate to the "prince and pauper" dynamic - hmmmm - I'm drawn to the idea that two people who run in different circles can come together.

Sandy said...

Thanks, Stacey. I agree with you.

Yes, I love witty sarcasm. You like the Mentalist, don't you? Smile.

Sandy said...

Thank you, Laura.

Historicals are great if they are accurate but there is so much freedom with them that readers might believe what they read and it's not real. I like a good sci-fi with romance.

Sandy said...

Thanks Robin. You're a true romantic. Wink. The prince and the pauper indeed.

Heather Snow said...

Historical all the way, for me :)

Sandy said...

I would never have guessed, Heather. Smile.

Thanks for coming by.

My favorite genre is historical fiction with mystery, romance or both built in.
