Feisty Heroines

Hi Everyone,

A couple of weeks ago, I posted a blog about the alpha hero. To be fair, I am going to give equal time to the heroine. This woman is the other half of the alpha male, and they belong together even though they may not think so at times.

People usually think the heroine is gorgeous, but she can be as ordinary as you and me. She may have freckles, pimples, be too tall, too short, have thin hair, thick hair, too thin, or too heavy. Hey, don’t all women think they are too something. Lol I do. She is still going to be feisty.

Being spirited doesn’t mean she argues with the hero, but it does mean she gives as much as she gets from him. She’s not a doormat to this alpha male, and she lets him know she’s quite capable of taking care of herself even though she occasionally likes to have someone to lean on.

Heroines are never weepy little milquetoasts who play helpless to the hilt. They are strong women with faults just like women in real life. They battle their problems and manage to come out on top. Of course, they may get some help from that alpha male but in return the heroine also assists him.

Heroines are able to compromise, to see all sides of an issue and make decisions based on all aspects of a subject. Are you beginning to see one of the major differences between the hero and heroine? Yes, men are straight forward and to the point whereas women analyze. Lol This is the very thing that drives men and women crazy with each other.

This spunky heroine is a communicator, and she makes her hero talk back to her even when he doesn’t want to. She may be a little wordy at times, but she wants to get everything explained so there’s no misunderstanding. The alpha male says what he has to say in as few words as possible and sometimes there’s confusion caused by his terseness. Our heroine may run away (for a while), or she may stay to clear up the confusion.

Our heroine is not perfect, but she has a good heart and will fight for the underdog, is loyal to friends, family and the hero. She has the same flaws that most women have. Remember women are from Venus and men are from Mars.

Hey guys, what is your idea of a heroine? For writers, what do you think a heroine should be like? Ladies, do think of your self as a heroine? You should. We have the qualities to be one.

Until next Sunday, have a great week.

Sandy

I hope i'm a heroine. We all should be to our own life story. LOL. I love a strong heroine. But not one who just argues for the sake of arguing. She needs to know when to back down too. Great blog Sandy.

Thank you, Rebecca.

I agree with you about the arguing. lol

Also, I agree that we can be heroines in our life stories.

My example of a heroine is a beautiful, strong-willed woman who has her own mind. In the beginning, I always make them snobbish then learn lessons and get humbled as the story concludes.

Great post.

Because I write macho heroes, most of my heroines have to be spunky to be a good match. Some of my heroines are spunkier than others. A heroine to me is someone who loves deeply, is loyal, and kind to the underdogs.

Of course I'm heroine. I couldn't have made it to this advantaged age and lived through trying times and not be one. :-)

I like fiesty heroines but agree with the others. I don't like them to argue too much. The smart heroine knows how to win her point in other ways.

Thanks, K.T.

How like a man wanting to humble the heroine. lol

Great comment, Christie. I think we think a lot alike on the heroine.

You're right that each one is different.

Thanks for stopping by, Linda.

You're right that each of us is a heroine. My greatest heroine was my mother. Her example through life showed me how to live and how to die.

You're killing me, Sandy.

K.T.,
LOL I've got to tell it like it is.

Grit, strength, determination, doesn't know the meaning of NO and CAN'T.

Heroines are beautiful on the inside making them even more so on the outside.

I will not settle for being a heroine...I want to be THE heroine.

Great post!

Sandy said...

Thanks, Elle.

I agree the heroine has to be beautiful on the inside to be truly beautiful.

Hey Sandy,

On this I have to agree. Your heroine sounds almost exactly like my gal from FOR THE LOVE OF HATTIE. She not only gives as good as she gets, she lights the fire under her hero to get him to do what he needs to do. There was once a wise saying, ‘behind every successful man there’s a good woman’. So true, if only we men would understand that. But I suppose there’s an equal reason why it necessitates a battle between the sexes. LOL.

Lol, we are definitely heroines, love, if only to put up with the Alphas in our worlds!

To me, the heroine has to have spirit. This translates differently for every heroine, because every woman is different and no two women face the same issue in the same way. Mine needs to have flaws too, be human, not a goddess placed on a pedestal where she cannot come down. She needs not be beautiful physically, but the beauty of her heart and soul have to shine through, and be especially visible to that hard-to-the-point-of-blind man she's with!

Great post, Sandy. Loved it.

Sandy,

I much prefer Alpha heroines to those too stupid to live, much less get the hunk at the end.

My heroine doesn't have to be "superhuman" but she does have to use her brain. She can even make mistakes, as long as she's able to realize her mistake and get herself out of a jam. But her mistakes are not beyond the scope of what a realistic person would do.

I like my heroines to be strong, intelligent with big hearts. I also don't mind one that can kick some butt should it come to it! She definitely needs to give the hero a run for his money!

Great post!

Mary Jo,

I agree with you that the heroine can't be brain dead as my husband might say. lol She has to be smart.

Thanks for coming by.

Thanks, Liena. I agree that the heroine should be able to kick some butt if it's needed. lol

My heroines have to be there for the hero! lol

Well, of course they have to be, J, or they wouldn't be heroines. lol
