| Hubby when he first got his Burgman |
Last Sunday, my
husband and I rode our Burgman motor scooter to church, but we stopped for
breakfast first. While eating breakfast,
a young couple walked up to us and started talking to us about the Burgman and
asking how we liked it. We told them we
loved it, and really got a lot of enjoyment from riding it.
The woman told us the story of how she used to ride her
Burgman to work because it was the perfect size for her to manage, and had room
for her laptop and other things she needed for work. One day, she was headed to work on I-635 when
a young driver drove her off the road.
When she got back up on the highway, she was astonished when the young
girl flipped her off after nearly causing her to have a bad accident. To make a
long story short, the woman who rode the Burgman to and from work became so
afraid after that incident she sold her scooter. She will not even ride on the back of her
husband's motor cycle.
A young woman at our bank lost her husband this past summer
just a block or two from his home when a drunk driver in a pickup truck hit and
killed him. This accident happened in a
residential area at a stop sign, and the man in the car was hit head on by a
driver going 60 plus miles.
It's monstrous when
people drive drunk, text or are otherwise distracted, and are so careless they
do not see others on the road. We've all
seen the drivers on the highway weaving in and out of traffic crossing
lanes. These drivers are dangerous. They
need to slow down and have some consideration for others.
While we're on the topic, I want to say something about the
bicycle riders. It's true they shouldn't
be riding on the road unless there is a bicycle path, but they don't deserve to
be ran over either. We need more places
for cyclists to ride.
There's more than one driver on the road. Stay safe everyone no matter what mode of
transportation you use to travel from place to place.

Good topic Sandy...unfortunately, there have been at least 3 deaths within the last few weeks here in our little town...bicycle related. One accident was a young man riding to school and a police car hit him! How bizarre is that?
Another was a pedestrian accident in a parking lot just over the bridge at a place I love to shop...The World Market...the fatality occurred as the lady with her shopping cart was almost to her car and another lady came around the corner and "clipped" her which caused her to go under the wheel of the pick-up truck. In panic, the driver...ran over the shopper 3 times! YES...we must be careful and more vigilant in our driving, riding and walking. Be safe out there folks! Kari
That's just horrible, Kari. People drive like they're on a racing track even in residential areas and shopping centers.
Kari, did the lady with the shopping cart survive? I hope so.
Sandy, I wish people would drive better. Life is too short to be angry over traffic.
There is a marked increase in impatience in drivers. Even if you're in the right, you don't dare act as if you are. I'm frightened half the time when on the road....
I lost my cousin to a motorcycle accident. He was riding home from work one night and was killed. It's scary at times even being in a car. Recently there was a case of road rage here and the guy was killed.
I agree with you, Jill. Life is too short to get in a battle over a lane.
Jean, you're right. Even when you know you're in the right you have to back down.
Melissa, I'm so sorry about your cousin. As the guy in the car at a complete stop, I told about in my blog was killed. The engine was pushed right into his car and his body by the pickup driver. The guy in the car was totally innocent, and he left a wife and two children. The pickup driver didn't have insurance either.
I don't see how people ride bikes or motorcycles, it's too dangerous...
James, you're right. We love to ride our scooter because of the freedom of the wind flowing around us.
No, Sandy...she did not survive. Sad to say.
