Colorado is a Beautiful State

Good Morning,
By my title you can tell, I'm going to talk about Colorado.  Colorado has suffered a lot lately.  First, due to fires burning eighty thousand acres of gorgeous forest around the Ft. Collins area, and then 18,000 acres around Colorado Springs.  Here are some pictures of the damage around the Springs.  This is just a small portion of the damage, and it will take years to rebuild.
The mountains are still beautiful as you'll see by these next pictures.

My time in Colorado was spent with my sister and family. We not only drove to the mountains, enjoyed dinners at home and out at restaurants, we went to Denver to see the new historical museum.  This museum will have four floors when it is completed.  There are two floors almost completed, but even so it is well worth seeing.

When you walk into the main entrance, there is a map of Colorado on the floor.  Two machines can be moved around the map to different locations of Colorado, and you'll learn the history of that spot.  It is a fun way for kids and adults to learn history.

I took a few pictures in the museum, but I have to admit that I was so fascinated that I forgot to take photos most of  the time.  I would love to post what I have but Blogger is being very difficult tonight.  You'll just have to take my word that this museum is well worth seeing.

All of you have heard about the tragedy in Aurora, Colorado, and I want to add my sympathy and prayers for the families of the victims.  It seems the world has become very cruel.

Have a safe and happy week.  I'll see you next Sunday.

Hugs to all of you,

Sandy

As a fifth-generation misplaced Coloradoan, I miss my home and am looking forward to moving back, even with all the tragedy it has seen lately. My family’s history is seeped in Colorado’s lore; many of the old historical buildings were either built by my great grandfather or his partner. His designs and tools are in the Denver Museum, and his butterfly collection the Natural History museum has, or at least they used to.

I was in Colorado during the Columbine High School shooting—the one the Aurora shooting is being compared to. Part of me wishes the US would adopt the European method of not showing the shooter, or sensationalizing the events. I know we are naturally curious and want all the details, but some very sick people want attention and they know they will get it this way.

What about the victims? Some good friends of mine shot a follow-up film about the families of the Columbine kids that were killed. It’s call Thirteen Families. It will be out on Netflix and On Demand next month, unless they pull it because of the Aurora shooting. I hope it airs, because it’s about coping with such a tragedy and moving on the best way a person can.

Colorado is not alone in its beauty and tragedy. Every place has its fare share…I’m just partial and looking to go home.

Elizabeth, you certainly have a huge history presence in Colorado. Thank you for sharing with us.

I agree that Colorado isn't the only state or country who has suffered tragedy. There are many places in this world with beauty.

Glad you enjoyed your trip. Colorado is beautiful.

Very sad about the shooting. It's so hard to understand why someone would want to hurt others. We want to believe they're mentally ill, but I'm not sure that's the entire story.

I've been nearly everywhere in Co lorado and would LOVE to return one day:) My last trip out there was in '02; we stayed at Nicky's Resort in Estes Park and went to RMNP nearly every day.

Linda, it's always fun to be with family. Yes, it's sad to think anyone will hurt anyone else. Many genius's are crazy. I really don't think we've heard the whole story yet.

Molly, I love Estes Park. I have been there in late September and seen herds of Elk. Fantastic sight to see.

I'm intrigued by the new historical museum. Is it simply called the Historical Museam of Denver? I love that knd of stuff and will check it out on my next trip there.
I'm glad you had a good trip and are safe.

Diana, it's call the New Historical Museum in Denver. You would love it.

Hey, Laura, I was thinking about you during the fires. I didn't know you lived in Aurora. You live close to my niece in Littleton. You have a great week.

It's too bad that such a lovely state has a share of crazies. I guess that's the way the world is going nowadays.

llona, thanks for coming by. I think it's sad when so many lives are ruined.

Just joined your blogsite because Casey Clifford awarded you the Liebster Award, as was I, and suggested your site.

Colorado is my favorite state. My heart breaks for all the victims and I agree with Elizabeth, I wish they'd stop showing the shooter and just tell us the verdict when the trial is over. Quit sensationalizing the whole thing and focus on the survivors. I don't even want to know his name.

Beautiful pictures, Sandy. I'm glad you had a good trip and that you're home safe.

Thank you, Patti. I'm so honored to receive the Liebster award as you should be.

Thank you, Stacey. I feel the same way you do about the state of Colorado. Some stations are focusing on the victims, and I'm glad to see that.
