Do You Watch Advertisements and Do You Have a Favorite? Plus Blogmania Winners Announced.

Hi Everyone,

First, I'm going to name the winners of my Blogmania contest, and then we'll get to my question.

Drum Roll Folks, here is the list everyone has been waiting for:

1st prize: Amber in Canada

2nd prize: Tracy P

3rd prize: Sabrina Shields

4th prize: Ginn7

5th prize: Allana 890

Congratulations to all the winners. I have sent out emails to all of you and all you have to do is reply back with your snail mail addresses.

Back to my question, I know a lot of you guys watch the commercials during the New Year's Day games, so your favorite is probably from that day.

Usually, I switch channels during commercials but there's one that I have been watching lately. Why does this commercial fascinate me? First of it's an airline commercial with lots of class. It reminds me of the old days when people used to dress up for flights around the world. It's the Korean Airline commercial, it tells a romantic story, dreams of a far-off land and it is first class all the way even on the wings of a plane. Smile. It's quality advertising, which we don't see a lot of anymore.

I'll be waiting eagerly to learn about your favorite.

Have a great week, and I'll see you next Sunday.

Oh and as for your question, there's an old milk commercial that I love.

There's a family sitting around a table eating breakfast and the mom is trying to get the kids to drink their milk. The kids look out the widow and see their neighbor (an old man) doing yard work. The kids say "but mr.miller, he doesn't drink milk and look at him". They look out the window just as he's lifting a wheel barrel and his arms fall off. Needless to say the kids guzzle down their milk.

It's a lot more funny to watch than read lol and it is in no was grotesque, just very silly!

I don't watch too much TV esp during the holidays but right now I love the nissan altima kidzilla one you can youtube it. The little boy is a replica of my nephew Maxwell!

I love commercials. Well, good ones. I still remember the old commercials of Maxwell House coffe--the on-going romance story. Commercials are meant to sell us something, but the best way to accomplish that is to entertain us.

I've been thinking about commercials and selling a product a lot lately as I'm working with a video person who is making my book video for my new YA. Book videos are basically commercials, a way to intrigue a viewer to buy a product. So this is an interesting topic for me.

Thanks.

I'm glad you're excited, Amber. I'll have it in the mail before the end of the week.

This is one package I would have liked to keep for myself. lol

LOL Amber, that sounds like a great commercial.

Hales, too bad it's not your nephew in the commercial. He'd be helping to pay for college. lol

Oh yes, Christie, that commercial was fantastic, and it was an on-going saga. Do you think they got the idea from romance authors? Yep, I bet they did.

Good luck with your new video for your YA books.

Me too, Becca. Thanks for stopping by.

I love the Korean Air commercial too. I guess us former airline people can relate. The commercials with kids and animals are my favorites. The ASPCA commercial with Sara McLauchlan singing gets me choked up every time I hear it. The song is as beautiful as her voice.

I don't even know what they're selling but I love the one where Abe Lincoln's wife asked if her butt looks big in her dress.

I love the Geico commercials. They aren't afraid of looking silly and they are on so many times a day that you remember them.

I like commercials from: Geico, Aflack, Progressive. That Korean Air one is very beautiful.

Okay I mute commercials except for my favorites. Much better that way. Overallll my favorites are the Bud Clydedale anything commercials. presently I love theSWA bags fly free commercials. they are done by SWA employees andare really fun.
I used to teach propaganda methods in my 8gade class and used the Superbowl commercials back when they were one minute for $1M. Now it's $1M for 15-30sec but was up to $1.5M for 30sec. I'm addicted to watching these now.

Thank you!

I relaly like the new ALLSTATE commercials with "Mayhem" - especially the one where he plays a teen girl texting while driving.

Funny about your choice of commercials, Sandy. It struck me in a completely different way. That Korean Air spot has convinced me NEVER to fly that airline. It's a throw back to the old "Coffee, Tea or Me?" school of how to view flight attendants. Blatantly sexualizing the people who are there to save lives in the event of an emergency bothers me. I've got some friends who are attendants and they resent being thought of as glorified waitresses. They may serve on ordinary flights, but they're trained to deal with emergencies of all sorts.

I like commercials that make me laugh. The Geico gecko and the ditzo Flo for Progressive are proof that humor works even for something as unfunny as insurance.

Yay, Donna, we're in agreement. Smile.

Belinda, thank you. I agree with you on those commercials. Anything with animals are wonderful and fun. I cheer Sarah for her dedication to animals.

Hilarious, Linda. I just recently saw that commercial. Thanks!

Yes, I like the Geico commercials too, but the earlier ones were the best, Jill. Thanks, Jill.

Thank you, Marianne. I forgot about the Progressive and Aflack commercials. There again, I think the earlier ones were the best. Smile.

Thanks, historical writer/editor.

Thank you, Anonymous. Those are very good choices.

Thanks, Sabrina. The All State commercials are excellent and get a message across.

Emily, I agree with you on your sentiment, but I wasn't referring to the flight attendants but the commercial. I miss the days when we were a more elegant society than where we are now. Also, Emily, during the beginning of airline travel the flight attendants had to be nurses, which is a far cry from glorified waitresses. As you say, they are trained to do so much more than hand out food and drinks. There aren't many medical emergenicies, but when they happen it is the flight attendant who has to be prepared to address it. They along with the pilots are at the forefront when it comes to problems with the airplane. They have to stay calm while others panic. Thank you for your comment, Emily.

yes the Korean Air comm - superb voice (who is it?) heightens the potential mystery which is unfortunately undone by overcrowding the sequence and the unnecessary strutting stewardesses

Got it - the vocals in the KAL commercial - its Carrie Tree of Luna Seeds, from "Compassion"
