Hi Everyone,
You're probably wondering what I'm going to write about on this topic. Well, you aren't the only ones. Grin. For the last few days, I have been saying over and over, I hate winter. Of course, the thought spawned this topic.
I don't like cold, so I don't like winter, but I do think the snow and ice in winter is a beautiful wonderland, so that means I like it. Well, I like it if I am not out in it. Looking at winter is fine but having to get outside to shovel the driveway, sidewalks or to drive in the stuff is not fun.
In the winter, I've always hibernated like a bear by not getting out other than when I had to go to work. As soon as I got home from work, I liked to curl up with a blanket, a good book and a cup of hot tea or hot chocolate. See winter sounds better all the time.
When I was a kid I loved sledding in the snow, but that was a long time ago. Smile. I don't like going downhill on a sled anymore or walking back up the hill. I like to watch out the window from inside my nice warm home when kids slide down the hill. They laugh and holler looking like they are having so much fun and it is a joy to see.
I like it when carolers come to the house to sing while standing in the snow. Of course, I stay inside my nice warm house to listen. Often, we would invite the carolers in for some hot beverage to warm them before they went to the next house. There were times when I was even one of the carolers.
At different times of our live we enjoy the opposite of what we used to like. Tell me some of your favorite things about winter and those you dislike as well.
Thank you for visiting today. Have a great week, stay safe and warm.
Sandy

Oh Sandy.... I don't like winter in the midwest, the snow (yuck!), ice (more yuck), and the cold (I don't like having to wear the coat, gloves, scarves, ect, to stay warm). We moved to the midwest in the mid 70s and all of the above was fun for about 4 years before the reality set in. I normally stay home when it snows alot, which it did this past week, but then I love an hour from work and drive country highways.
It is pretty, the snow and ice, as long as one can stay inside where it's dry and warm.
Winter is my favorite season. You just have to be ready for it and have the "right stuff." I lived in the mountains in Colorado while my boys were growing up. We had 300" of snow a year and there were no snow days in the school calendar! Just think, there are no two snowflakes alike. It boggles the mind. In the mountains, even though it is dry, there is still moisture in the air. When it gets down to about 20 below, that moisture freezes and crystallizes. There is a different look, almost a sparkle, in the air. It's hard to describe but infinitely beautiful. Yes, there are some wonders about winter that should be appreciated. Its a wondrous thing to sit in an outdoor hot tub sipping champagne while it is snowing. I love winter!!
DeanY, I don't like coats, hats and gloves either. It only took you four years to get your fill of mid-west weather. lol
Hi BAH,
I'm so glad you love winter. Wouldn't it be awful if we all thought the same way? Smile.
Thanks for coming by.
I hate everything about winter, except the major holidays. As far as ideal weather year-round, mine would be 50-60's at night, 70-85 during the days. That would solve no air conditioning, no heating bills....
I certainly share your sentiments about winter, Sandy! Everyone around me hears at least once a day how much I hate it. I guess it wouldn't be so bad if I could stay inside for the entire season and not have to venture out into the cold.
I'm not a winter person. I just can't stand the cold. I hate the heating bills even more so I am always cold all winter. I do like shoveling snow. Can't explain that but I can spend up to 45 minutes shoveling my walk and steps and salting them. I love a clean sidewalk. Snow is beautiful to look at as long as I don't have to walk around in it, through the slush, on icy snow-covered walks carrying groceries. Ugh!
LOL K.T., thanks for the comment. I agree with you on the utility bills.
Thanks, LuAnn.
I'm sorry you have to get out in all this stuff. Just a month or two more of it though. I do remember when we used to get snow in April. lol
Thanks, She, for coming by.
You can shovelour sidewalk and drive anytime you want. Smile. We would offer your favorite hot beverages for doing it. Smile.
Sandy--I do not like winter--maybe I'd like it for about two weeks, then it can go away. I have a new blog up today titled "Surviving and Ice Storm." Not fun. Here in Central Texas, we rarely get snow, but we do have ice often--some times worse than others.
Celia
the first 4 years we did not have to shovel snow and most of the time I rode the bus to work. Then we moved and had to shovel the driveway before the cars could be driven out.
My family knows that "snow" is a 4 letter word that they are not to use around me. YUCK!
As long as I don't have drive, winter doesn't bother me but when the ice, snow and cold prevent me from walking, then I can get cranky:-)
Of course it does give me an excuse to curl up with a cup of something hot and a good book, so there is an upside!
As a Southern California resident normally we don't have much of a winter. But this year I had to break out the heavy wool coat when it barely reached 50 during the day. I know that doesn't sound that cold but to an LA girl that's below freezing. : ) That said it was nice to actually feel the seasons change as I'm originally from the the East coast. Made me feel a bit nostalgic!
Hey Sandy,
I'm not terribly fond of winter. I'm a fall type of person. I like weather were you can go out in a nice cable-knit sweater and not freeze to death. After the winter we had last year here in the Northeast (two 12+inch snow storms in a week), I'm ready for a really mild winter. So far the most we've gotten is about 4 inches. I hope it stays that way :)
Thanks for coming by, Celia.
I can't tell you how many times I've slid around in ice while driving. It's scary.
LOL DeanY, I totally understand about the four-letter word, snow.
Thanks, Paris.
You're right Paris about there always being an upside and there is one to everything if you can see it.
Anne, you've had the benefits of all seasons. Smile.
Fifty degrees and you put on a winter wool coat. lol I would like to have seen that.
Thanks for coming by, Lynn. So glad to hear you're having a mild winter.
Fall is my favorite season because I love the tree leaves turning colors.
winter does give an excuse for staying in and reading under a cozy blanket.
Fortunately for us, winter in Texas isn't so bad most of the time. But when it's cold it's usually a wet cold and miserable. When it's cold, I like to drink coffee or cocoa with peppermint schnaps in it.
Yes, it does, Di. Winter is my down time. Smile.
Thanks, Linda. You just reminded me that I have some peppermint creamer that I haven't opened yet. Grin. You know where I'm headed.
I love bundling up...it's better to be able to put on warmer clothing than to be sweating and only be able to take off a certain amount of clothing!
I love watching the snow fall and how pretty everything looks. Don't like it when the snow gets dirty and icy roads cause trouble.
I love snow when I can take a wonderful Curier & Ives 1 horse open sleigh ride thru snowy woods, bringing along homemade doughnuts and real hot chocolate. Ah, such fantasy !

Goodness, can't name a single thing I like about winter...nothing! I'd hibernate the entire season away if I cound. Heck, if I could, I'd move!
I was never fond of winter growing up in NYC, trudging to school in the frigid air, counting down the markers indicating how soon I'd be back in the warmth. Snow is beautiful when it first falls. Once there are footprints, dirty slush, and black ice forget about it. My appreciation didn't grow in VA, Germany, or England. The thought of burning calories was the only thing to keep me sane while shoveling. Although, I do appreciate the break from the heat in Florida during the winter months. I plan to retire somewhere warm.
I hate being cold too! So much so I am going on a Cruise. My first ever Cruise. After the Holidays I am ready for spring. I hate wearing coats. Although I do love to watch it snow. I think that is beautiful especially when you are inside the warm house. I also love to walk. When my walking trail is icy and snowy and I can't walk I get cranky. Now here is a paradox; I do love the way I feel after walking in the cold brisk air. I think I will enjoy walking on deck of the ship. Susan
Marianne, thanks for coming by. I think the big snowflakes are beautiful.
Ah, Pat, thank you for that memory. If I remember right, you did take that ride. Only, I can't remember if it was in the winter or not. Smile.
Joann, I understand. Where would you like to move? I don't think there's a perfect on this earth.
Thanks, Isis.
I remember those days of walking to school in snow. Sometimes, we took the shortcut over the college campus but not often because then we had to battle the wind as well as the snow.
Susan,
I envy you the cruise. I love them, but you should talk to Marianne about her last cruise. lol It was a disaster. Hopefully yours will be wonderful like mine was years ago.
There is NO NO NO part of winter or cold weather I like!!!!! What might be beautiful to look at, out my window, is overshadowed by the coldness. Give me HOT any day!
LOl Suzy, we know wher you stand. Thanks for your comment.
You like staying inside where it's warm and enjoying watching other people enjoying the cold :)
I'm good with cold, as long is stays somewhere where I'm no.
Nix
Thanks, Nix, for persisting in getting here. Smile.
